Frequently Asked Questions

Request Free QuoteQ. I am a small business owner that wants to promote my business in a professional manner to new and current customers. What do I need to achieve this?

A. HockeyGurl Designs specializes in web site design and development for small businesses and non-profit organizations, focusing on the special needs of "mom and pop" companies. Once your web site is up and running, you will need to take steps to direct visitors to your new site through search engine optimization and social media marketing, as well as adding the URL for your new web site to your current advertising.

Q. Why do I need to hire a professional web designer? Can't I do all of this myself, for free?

A. When you hire a web designer, you are doing more than just handing over work that you do not have the time or inclination to do. By investing a little money in a web designer, you will be more focused and have more time to spend on your actual business strategy. The designers you hire are professionals, and should be experienced at what they do. By outsourcing your web design projects to them, you won't have to worry that you will spend time away from your business when problems surface; you have someone that will fix them for you. They have the expertise to pin point any problems that may come up, and will be able to fix it in a minimum amount of time.

Q. How long does it take to complete a website?

A. There are many factors that play a role in the timeline of a web design project. Most importantly are the client's needs. The proposed timeline will be defined in our initial planning sessions. One of the most common delays in the completion of a new website is waiting for content (text/images) to be sent by the client.

Q. How much will a web site cost me?

A. The cost of a web site varies depending on the site and complexity. The project total will be discussed in the initial consultation, and detailed in the proposal and the contract you sign prior to the start of the project. Please feel free to request and review a sample of our web contract that details the services we provide.

Q. Can you update an existing web site that you have not created?

A. We will gladly review an existing website, and provide you with an evaluation of the site and a quote for updating it. We can do everything from updating text and links to reinventing your entire online presence.

Q. After the web site is completed, how will changes be made?

A. We understand your website is the face of your company and should always be up-to-date and accurate. We fully support any website we design and are always available should you encounter any problems or require any enhancements. We offer web site maintenance plans which range from occasional updates to daily or weekly revisions. As-needed maintenance is also available.

Q. Can I update my web site myself?

A. Yes you can, but why do that when you have us? Web design is a talent and a skill. Whether your site is constructed as a responsive html site, or is developed in a content management system, there are a lot of behind the scenes aspects that go into the aesthetics and functionality of your site which go far beyond deleting text and repositioning pictures. A website, after all, is not a Word document. We will gladly advise you on the best way to go about making changes in general terms, but we do not give lessons. Additionally, if you or a third party makes changes to the site and it is "broken", we will charge a fee for any corrections or repairs.
